Our Featured Staff Member: Reyna Montero

WE WOULD LIKE TO TAKE A MOMENT TO RECOGNIZE REYNA MONTERO FROM OAK GROVE CLUB! REYNA IS AN ENTHUSIASTIC AND THOUGHTFUL YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROFESSIONAL WHO CURRENTLY WORKS WITH KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADERS.

Reyna joined our team in October of 2019. She enjoys working with youth and is inspired to work at the Club because there was a time in her youth where she needed something like the Club. Her passion is to help others become the best versions of themselves. She does this by taking the time to listen to every member and understand them as individuals. Reyna also works to create a sense of community in her classroom as she believes that it helps members feel more comfortable being themselves.

Due to COVID-19, our Clubs transitioned into a virtual experience; it was Reyna’s goal to give her students the smoothest transition possible. Reyna said, “My goal was to give my students the closest thing to an in-person experience. I knew it had to be purposeful and engaging. I started off by making sure that I had great communication with parents. I stayed in contact with them to let them know when our meetings were occurring and what activities were going to be taking place."

"I tried my best to find hands-on activities that we could do on Zoom as well as activities that needed little to no help from an adult. We started off with planting some seeds, then we painted bird houses, and then made Mother’s Day frames. I also wrote each child a personal letter and drew them a picture. Overall, this experience has been challenging, but I am glad we’re still able to see our members via Zoom!”
