Our Featured Staff Member: Monica Fernandez

WE WOULD LIKE TO RECOGNIZE MONICA FERNANDEZ, IVANHOE CLUB'S LEAD STAFF, WHO HAS BEEN ON OUR TEAM FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS! MONICA GREW UP IN IVANHOE HERSELF AND IS COMMITTED TO MAKING A POSITIVE IMPACT IN HER COMMUNITY. SHE DOES THIS BY BEING A GOOD CITIZEN AND RELIABLE MENTOR TO LOCAL YOUTH!

As Lead Staff at her Club, Monica’s duties revolve around her assisting her Unit Director and helping staff and members with their everyday activities. It is clear that members of all ages look up to Monica. They can always rely on her for reassurance and encouragement, whether it be to encourage them to try new things or to work hard and follow their passion.

Monica said, “The kids inspire me to work for BGCS! Kids remind me of how amazing and exciting the world can be—I love seeing the world through their eyes. Children encourage me to use my imagination and find new creative ways to do things! They are wonderful little humans. I want them to be successful in life and I want to be part of their journey. BGCS allows me to give back to the community that I grew up in and allows our youth to have a piece of my passion."

Monica has worked hard to stay connected with her Club members these past few months. She said, “I have reached out to members through Zoom and by sending out educational packets. This experience has really made me miss the youth I work with. I've learned that technology can be a good tool during this time and I also have learned that we need to cherish every moment that life gives you.”
