Core Program Areas

Great lives start here! Boys & Girls Clubs' programs have taken members from the Clubhouse to the White House; from the games room to the corporate boardroom; from the high school band to Carnegie Hall.

Boys & Girls Clubs have a lineup of tested and proven nationally recognized programs that address today's most pressing youth issues, teaching young people the skills they need to succeed in life, while providing a safe place for thousands of children after school and during the summer.

Our Clubs offer activities in these Core Program Areas:

Health and Life Skills
 Health & Lifeskill

These programs encourage young people to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being and set personal goals for the future. Through key partnerships and full-time staff, members participate in programs that reinforce healthy living such as SMART Moves, a drug, alcohol, and tobacco prevention program, gender-specific programming, pregnancy prevention programs, and diversity education. Special events that include screenings, health presentations, and financial literacy conferences are another key component of this program area.

Character and Leadership Development
Character & Leadership

Empowers youth to support and influence their Club and community, sustain meaningful relationship with others, develop a positive self-image and good character, participate in the democratic process, and respect their own and others’ cultural identities.

These programs empower members to positively influence their Club and community, sustain meaningful relationships with others, and develop self-esteem. The Keystone and Torch Clubs, in which members elect officers and plan and implement their own activities and community service projects, help young people learn about decision making, understanding democratic processes, and contribute to both their Club and community. Our yearlong Youth of the Year leadership and recognition program encourages scholarship and develops public speaking skills, both critical for future success.

The Arts

Fine Arts

Art programs allow young people to develop creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of visual arts and crafts, performing arts, and creative writing. Each Club has a dedicated cultural arts room, offering classes in music, drama, fine arts, crafts, photography, woodworking, and more. These activities foster self-expression and help develop appreciation of other cultures.

Technology

Technology

Our Technology programs help develop young people's technical skills to provide them a competitive edge among their peers and prepare them for future success. These programs are continuing to expand to include STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) subjects and project-based learning techniques to better equip Club members with skills for the 21st century workplace

Sports, Fitness and Recreation
 Fitness & Healthy Lifestyles

Club members develop fitness, positive use of leisure time, skills for stress management, appreciation for the environment, and social skills through sports, fitness, and recreation programs. Young people learn teamwork and physical fitness through organized athletic leagues for football, soccer, basketball, ice hockey, street hockey, baseball, tee-ball, and softball. In addition we offer unique athletic competitions, and a variety of low-organized sports and games in the gymnasium.

Education and Career Development
 Education & Career Development

We're helping youth to become proficient in basic educational disciplines, apply learning to everyday situations, and promote future career success. Each Club has a learning center dedicated to helping members improve their study habits, do well in school, and make good life choices. The POWER HOUR program offers members afterschool homework help and tutoring.
